CatTranslator ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the CatTranslator app processes, how it is used, and what choices you have.
1. Information We Process
- Audio recordings you create in the app.
- Photos you select for cat mood analysis.
- Cat profile information you choose to enter (such as your cat's name, age, and breed). This is stored on your device; your cat's name may also be included in requests sent to our AI provider to personalise translations and mood analysis results.
- Text you optionally type to describe a custom scenario or persona for your cat, which is sent to our AI provider to shape the translation or mood analysis result.
- App usage data (for example, which features you use, session duration, and subscription events) collected by our analytics provider.
- An anonymous identifier generated by our authentication and analytics providers to associate app sessions. This identifier does not include your name, email, or contact details.
- Purchase and subscription status needed to unlock premium features.
- Support information you choose to send (for example, email feedback).
2. How We Use Information
We process information to:
- Provide app features (cat translation, mood analysis, saved recordings, reminders).
- Improve reliability, security, and performance.
- Verify purchases and manage premium access.
- Respond to support requests you initiate.
3. Audio and Photo Processing
- Recordings, translations, and mood scan results are stored on your device when you choose to save them.
- For cloud cat translation, the app sends a text summary from on-device sound analysis (labels and confidence scores), not the raw audio file, to OpenAI via our Firebase relay. If you provided a custom scenario, persona hint, or your cat's name, those are included in the same request. A short list of recent translation results may also be included to avoid repetition.
- For cloud mood analysis, your photo is resized and compressed before being sent to OpenAI (as a JPEG image) to produce a result. Your cat's name, custom scenario text, and recent mood history may also be included in the request. On-device mood analysis does not send your photo anywhere.
- Mood scan photos you save are stored on your device in the app's local documents folder and remain there until you delete them.
- We do not sell your personal information.
4. Third-Party Services
CatTranslator uses third-party services to operate core functionality, including:
- Firebase — anonymous authentication and cloud function relay to OpenAI.
- OpenAI — AI processing; receives audio classification summaries, optional custom scenario text, and cat photos for cloud translation and mood analysis.
- Mixpanel — analytics; receives app usage events, session data, subscription events, and aggregate AI usage metrics (such as token counts from mood analysis) tied to an anonymous identifier. Data is processed on Mixpanel's EU infrastructure.
- RevenueCat — subscription and purchase entitlement management.
- Apple services — StoreKit purchases and in-app review prompt.
These providers process data under their own privacy terms.
5. Payments
All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your payment card details.
6. Notifications
If you enable reminders, notification preferences (such as reminder time) are stored to deliver scheduled local notifications.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run app features, or when required by law.
8. Data Retention
- Content you save in the app remains on your device until you delete it.
- Some service-provider logs and analytics may be retained per provider policies for security, billing, and reliability.
9. Children's Privacy
CatTranslator is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Your Choices
You can:
- Delete saved content from the app.
- Disable notifications in app settings or iOS settings.
- Manage subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
